Taylor Wimpey España bought plot R2, the last residential plot in the Mirador de Estepona Hills complex, and plans 168 homes in two developments of 84. The investment is €89.4 million. Works are due to start in the first quarter of 2027 and will run in four phases, so expect building work inside the complex from 2027.

  2. Estepona hospital closes its operating theatres for the summer8.5 km

The operating theatres at the public Hospital de Alta Resolución de Estepona closed on 24 June for lack of staff, especially anaesthetists, according to unions. The hospital's inpatient ward has still not opened.

  3. Roadside fire at the east entrance to town4 km east

A fire that started in a roadside bin near the Padrón river spread to dry scrub and a mechanic's workshop next to the A-7, destroying about 50 vehicles. Nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution and one A-7 lane towards Cádiz closed for several hours. Crews had it under control after about seven hours. Hillside homes on this coast carry summer fire risk.

  4. New boulevard and €1-a-day car park in the centre3 km

Work continues on the new boulevard between Avenida San Lorenzo, Avenida Juan Carlos I and Avenida España. Under it, a car park for more than 300 cars joins the council network at €1 a day; in late July its roof was due for completion in September. The finished boulevard will link the seafront promenade with the old town.

Wooden boardwalks will be replaced by 1,250 m of concrete walkways. No completion date was given.

  6. Town bus network to be retenderedno dates

The council is drafting a new 10-year town bus contract with a renewed fleet. The draft plans three circular lines running every day of the year: Centre, West (via the Hospital de Estepona) and East. The current contract is ending; the tender documents were still being drafted.

  7. Still no date for a new A-7 junctionno dates

The council says the A-7 slip road at Avenida Juan Carlos I, the junction used to reach the motorway from the hills, suffers heavy queues. It proposes a new junction at La Lobilla, next to Mirador de Estepona Hills, or at the Cuesta de Ronda, and has offered to pay for the works. It is still waiting for the viability study the Ministry of Transport promised in 2024.

  8. Contract signed for a sports complex with an indoor poolno dates

The council has signed the contract to build and run a complex with a heated indoor pool and stands, 17 padel courts, 2 tennis courts, 2 petanque courts and parking for 80 cars.
