  1. Hospiten Estepona doubles its emergency area1.5 km

    The private Hospiten Estepona, a few minutes from the Selwo complexes, opened a larger 24-hour emergency area with a separate children's emergency service. Emergency boxes went from 7 to 13, and the hospital now has 59 beds including intensive care, plus 30 consulting rooms. Gynaecology and obstetrics, paediatrics and cardiology are among the reinforced specialties.

  2. Bigger Hospital Costa del Sol, top rating for its maternity unit

    The public hospital in Marbella, where births for this area take place, officially opened its extension of more than €100 million on 3 March 2026: 16 new operating theatres, radiotherapy, nuclear medicine and an assisted reproduction unit. On 9 September 2026 its gynaecology and obstetrics unit received the Excelente level, the highest of three, from the Andalusian healthcare quality agency (ACSA).

  3. No Blue Flag for Estepona's beaches this yearEstepona

    The official 2026 Blue Flag list includes 45 beaches in Málaga province, but none in Estepona. The town's marina kept its flag. The nearest flagged beach is San Pedro de Alcántara (Guadalmina) in Marbella, 20 to 23 minutes by car.

  4. Roadside fire at the Padrón river entrance to Estepona3.5 km west

    A fire started in a roadside bin near the Padrón river, by the A-7 at the entrance to Estepona. It spread to dry scrub and a mechanic's workshop, destroyed about 50 vehicles and burned around 800 m² before firefighters controlled it in the evening. Nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution, and one A-7 lane towards Cádiz was closed for several hours.

  5. Cancelada residents complain about roundabout queues3 km east

    Residents filed a complaint with 349 signatures at the town hall about daily jams at Cancelada's main roundabout, with queues back to the A-7 exit by Lidl and Mercadona. A 500 m one-way stretch sends Bel Air, El Paraíso, Paraíso Alto, Riviera Beach and Bahía Azul residents on a 4 km detour to reach Marbella. They ask for a traffic study and a direct exit; no council reply was reported.

  6. Estepona presses for a new A-7 accessno dates

    The town hall again asked the Ministry of Transport for a feasibility study, pending since 2024, on a new A-7 access at La Lobilla or the Cuesta de Ronda to ease jams at the town-centre exits. The council says it would pay for the works if the Ministry gives its approval. There is no timetable yet.

  7. More new homes going up around Selwo1 km

    AEDAS Homes gives an estimated delivery in the third quarter of 2026 for Australy Aures, 73 homes in Selwo. In December 2025 it also launched Vanian Park, 50 homes in four blocks in the Torre Vigía sector. Expect building sites and works traffic near the newer complexes.

  • Public GP: Consultorio Cancelada, Monday to Friday 8:00 to 15:00, tel. 951 97 54 50 (urgent line 951 03 14 37). The assigned centre depends on the exact address.
  • Births and A&E: Hospital Costa del Sol in Marbella, the reference hospital for this area, 28 to 31 min by car.
  • Private care: Hospiten Estepona, with 24-hour adult and children's emergencies, 5 to 8 min by car.
  • Nearest pharmacy: Farmacia Cespedosa in Parque Antena, 3 to 9 min by car.
  • Estepona's urban buses stop on the A-7 service road at Selwo Aventura and El Velerín.

Meeting people

  • Cancelada is the nearest village centre: tapas bars, a bakery, the parish church and Plaza de la Juventud, a square with a playground and open-air events in summer.
  • Cancelada has its own village feria in August (20 to 23 August in 2026), separate from Estepona's main fair in July.
  • RozaRossa in El Paraíso rents tennis and padel courts by the hour and runs group lessons, tournaments and kids' events.
  • Estepona's first marathon runs on 11 October 2026, mostly along the coastal path. Nearly half of the more than 1,500 entrants signed up from abroad.
  • Oasis 325, Vanian Gardens and Aranya all have a shared gym and a coworking room for residents.

  • CEIP Ramón Lago, Cancelada: public infant and primary school.
  • Atlas American School, Selwo Hills: American curriculum and IB, ages 3 to 18. Listed fees for 2026/27 run from about €9,050 to €16,850 a year.
  • The International School Estepona, El Paraíso: British curriculum, ages 2 to 11, 60 places. Its authorisation was renewed in August 2026.
  • Mayfair International Academy, Atalaya Park: British curriculum up to age 18.
