Cancelada is a small village east of Estepona town, at the A-7 Cancelada exit. Homes range from village houses and apartments to gated complexes in Bel Air, El Paraíso and Atalaya nearby. It suits families who want a public GP, schools and supermarkets close by. The beaches of El Saladillo and Guadalmansa are about 5 minutes by car.

  • Births and A&E: Hospital Costa del Sol in Marbella, the reference hospital for Cancelada, about 24 minutes by car.

  • Escuela Infantil Municipal Cancelada: public nursery with 74 places for ages 16 weeks to 3 years. Applications open in April.
  • CEIP Ramón Lago: public infant and primary school in the village.
  • IES Profesor Tomás Hormigo: public secondary school in Cancelada.
  • Plaza de la Juventud has a playground and hosts summer events. The village feria ran from 20 to 23 August in 2026.
  • British-curriculum schools nearby: The International School Estepona in El Paraíso and Mayfair International Academy in Atalaya.

Getting around

  • A car is the norm. The A-7 Cancelada exit serves the village, Bel Air and El Paraíso.
  • The Cancelada roundabout queues at peak times, and street works are changing traffic directions in the village.
  • Málaga airport is about 64 minutes by car and the Gibraltar border about 49.

What changed nearby in 2026

  1. Cancelada's main streets are being rebuilt

    Phase one is under way on Avenida del Mirador: wider pavements, new paving, and new water, drainage and street lighting. Calle Marqués del Duero and Calle Montemayor follow, one phase after another. Avenida del Mirador will become one-way heading south and Marqués del Duero one-way heading north.

  2. Contract awarded for the Cancelada street works

    The town hall awarded the remodelling of Mirador, Marqués del Duero and Montemayor for €2,951,493. The works are planned to take just over a year. Expect diversions and roadworks in the village until they finish.

  3. New road link into Cancelada from Camino Briján

    The town hall opened a new road giving access to Cancelada from Camino Briján, part of the El Taraje sector. The works added five roads and 11,800 m² of green space with children's play and fitness equipment. A new crossing over the Guadalmansa river also links Cancelada with Las Joyas, La Resina and Selwo.

  4. Public nursery places for 2026/27

    Estepona's five municipal nurseries took applications from 1 to 30 April 2026 for children from 16 weeks to 3 years. The Cancelada nursery offers 74 places. The window has opened each April, so check the town hall news in March.

  5. Residents complain about roundabout queues

    Residents filed a complaint with 349 signatures about daily jams at Cancelada's main roundabout, with queues back to the A-7 exit by Lidl and Mercadona. Bel Air, El Paraíso, Paraíso Alto, Riviera Beach and Bahía Azul are affected. They ask for a traffic study and a direct exit; no council reply was reported.

  6. Bigger Hospital Costa del Sol

    The public hospital in Marbella, the reference hospital for Cancelada, officially opened an extension of about 40,000 m². It adds 16 operating theatres, radiotherapy, day hospitals and an assisted reproduction unit, with more than €100 million invested.
